UKC Total Dog: Total Dog is a way to showcase dogs who look and perform equally well. To earn a Total Dog award, dogs must qualify in both conformation and an eligible performance event on the same day.

The following UKC Programs are what activities you may encounter at UKC events. Please visit the UKC link to get the latest rule books for the activities. All the below require a UKC registration number and are open to all dogs, except for conformation.

Conformation

UKC recognized Purebred dog | 6 months & older

A Conformation event is a competition for purebred dogs where the dog is evaluated based upon how closely the dog conforms to its breed standard. 

Agility

15 months & older

The overall agility performance should convey an image of fun, enthusiasm and partnership between the dog and handler. Scoring is based on a point system with a course run time used to break ties and placements.

Dock Jumping

6 months & older

Sport where dogs jump into the water to catch a toy. The dogs are judged on how far they jump into the water. 

  • Splashes will be in groups of equal size based on # of entries. 

  • Handlers may jump up to three of their splashes back-to-back.

  • Each dog and handler team will have 2 jumps per splash.

  • The larger distance between the two jumps will be the score. 

Drag Racing

1 Year & older and 18 inches or under at the withers.

​Drag Racing is a competitive event designed for all dogs within a specified size range, to evaluate a dog’s natural prey drive and exhibit the dog’s usefulness as a companion. This event also emphasizes the handler’s ability to train a dog and the dog’s willingness to work.

Junior Program

​is to encourage young handlers to become fully involved with the world of dogs by encouraging participation in conformation and performance events, as well as promoting education about breeding dogs and responsible dog ownership. One very important goal of this program is to encourage UKC Juniors to embrace the Total Junior philosophy

Lure Coursing

​Lure Coursing is a competition of primarily Sighthound breeds, structured in a brace elimination format and is designed to test and evaluate the skills required in a coursing dog. The format draws from traditional English and early American coursing tests. Each portion of the course tests a particular skill, and the winner is declared by the judge at the end of each course. 

Nosework

6 months & older

Nosework is an uninterrupted performance by the dog and handler without direction from the judge. The arrangement of the searches that are found in Nosework are randomly chosen. The Nosework team is evaluated on their ability to search for, locate, and respond to, target odors defined by the UKC Nosework Rulebook.

Obedience

An Obedience trial is a competitive evaluation of a dog-and-handler team that executes specified routines which emphasize the usefulness of the dog as a companion and the handler’s ability to train a dog that demonstrates willingness and enjoyment to work.

Precision Coursing

1 year & older

The purpose of Precision Coursing® is to elicit the dog’s natural prey drive and chasing instincts. Precision Coursing® is for dogs over 1 years old and will give dogs an opportunity to learn patterned courses that become increasingly complex. Courses will test a dog’s speed, agility, and foresight.

Rally Obedience

6 months & older

​A Rally performance is an uninterrupted presentation arranged randomly to encourage a natural approach to the performance. The overall performance should convey fun, enthusiasm, and the ability of the dog-handler pair to work as a team.

SPOT

6 months

SPOT Program the SPOT program offers owners a chance to prove that their dog is a well-behaved asset to their community. The SPOT program consists of 10 separate testing stations. At each station, the dog must perform a basic exercise.

Weight Pull

1 year & older

Weight pull competition tests a dog’s strength and stamina based on the dog’s ability to pull a maximum amount of weight 16 feet within 60 seconds. Scores are based on the amount of weight pulled per body pound and the amount of time required to complete the pull.
